Implants are placed in a single surgical visit, and many patients leave with a provisional fixed bridge the same day. Over the following four to six months, the implants integrate with the bone while the provisional is worn and adjusted.
Once healing is confirmed, a final prosthesis — typically zirconia or an acrylic-and-titanium hybrid — is fabricated and fitted, followed by regular maintenance visits to check the prosthesis and implant health.

Zygomatic and Pterygoid Implant Restorations

When there isn’t enough jawbone left to anchor standard implants, zygomatic implants are placed further back, engaging the zygomatic bone (the cheekbone) instead of the upper jaw. Pterygoid implants are angled toward the pterygoid plate, a bone structure at the back of the skull base, to add stable posterior support. Both approaches let a fixed prosthesis be anchored in dense, stable bone outside the areas affected by jaw resorption, often without the staged bone grafting that would otherwise be required first.

These cases involve more complex surgery than conventional implant placement, often performed in a hospital or surgical center setting given the anatomical structures involved. A fixed provisional prosthesis can frequently still be delivered the same day. Because the implants sit near the sinus and other surrounding structures, close post-operative monitoring is part of recovery, and follow-up tends to involve more coordination between the surgical and restorative specialists than a standard implant case.
